    — The Billionaire Who Short-Sold the Sun

The problem with absolute power was the physical toll it took on the body holding it. For thirty-four years, Celeste Vane had treated her flesh and blood as a localized supply chain—requiring specific inputs of caffeine, hydration, and precisely timed REM sleep to produce the necessary output of a global orbital energy grid.

Tonight, however, the required input was friction.

Her spine met the freezing tempered glass of the penthouse window. Beyond the pane, the Guiana Space Centre was bathed in the harsh, halogen glare of floodlights, the Helia satellite launch vehicle standing like a metallic monolith against the equatorial night. But inside the suite, the only light came from the city’s distant amber glow, tracing the heavy, muscular lines of the stranger’s shoulders as he caged her against the glass.

He had broad hands. Efficient hands. When she had met him an hour ago at the lobby bar—a nameless, sharp-suited man nursing a neat bourbon—she had calculated the transaction in three seconds. She had twelve hours until the board meeting that would finalize the activation of the global grid. Her stress cortisol levels were at a toxic peak. She needed a physical reset. He had looked at her not with the fawning reverence of her subordinates, but with the cold, assessing gaze of an apex predator determining if a meal was worth the chase.

"Are we clear on the parameters?" his voice was a low, abrasive rumble that vibrated through her collarbone as he leaned in. His mouth hovered a fraction of an inch from her jaw. He smelled of cedar, ozone, and expensive linen.

"I don’t do ambiguity," Celeste breathed, her fingers digging into the lapels of his discarded shirt, dragging him closer. "We are two sober adults. I have a flight at five a.m. Until then, you have my full consent to take this exactly where we both know it’s going. If I say stop, we stop. If you say stop, we stop."

    "Understood."

He didn’t waste time with further pleasantries. His hand slid up the bare skin of her thigh, his thumb hooking the silk of her lingerie and snapping it effortlessly. The sudden exposure sent a jolt of pure, unadulterated adrenaline straight to her frontal lobe. When his fingers found her, dragging upward through the damp heat, Celeste let out a sharp gasp, her nails biting into the heavy muscle of his forearms.

It was mechanical perfection. There was no fumbling, no hesitation. He read the physiological responses of her body with the same terrifying accuracy she used to read global market trends. When she arched into his touch, demanding more pressure, he adjusted his angle instantly, his dark eyes locking onto hers, absorbing her reaction.

"You’re tense," he murmured, his breath hot against the shell of her ear as his fingers worked a relentless, driving rhythm that made her knees buckle. He caught her weight effortlessly, pinning her hips flush against his. "Hold onto me."

She didn’t want to hold on; she wanted to conquer. Celeste grabbed his dark hair, pulling his head back to expose his throat, and crushed her mouth against his. The kiss was a collision of teeth and heat, a violent negotiation of control. She tasted whiskey and iron. He tasted the ruthless, demanding edge of a woman who owned the sun.

"Bed," she ordered, her voice completely fractured.

He obliged, but he didn’t carry her like a prize. He walked her backward, their bodies tangled in a continuous, heavy friction until the backs of her knees hit the edge of the king-sized mattress. She went down, dragging him with her. The sheets were cold for exactly two seconds before the oppressive heat of his body covered hers.

He parted her thighs with a knee, settling his weight between them. Even in the dim light, she could see the stark intensity in his face—a quiet, dangerous focus. He unbuckled his belt with one hand, his gaze never leaving her face.

"Look at me," he commanded softly.

"I am," she challenged, wrapping her long legs around his hips, tilting her pelvis upward to grant him the access they both craved.

He entered her in one long, deliberate thrust. Celeste cried out, the sound muffled by his mouth crashing down on hers. The fullness was staggering, an anchor of pure physical reality grounding her racing, over-analytical mind. He didn’t move immediately. He stayed buried deep inside her, letting her body stretch and accommodate the invasion, giving her the space to acclimate, to calibrate.

"Good?" he asked, his voice strained, a muscle ticking in his jaw as he held himself back.

"Don’t pause on my account," she gritted out, her fingernails tracking down his spine. "Optimize the pace. Harder."

He let out a dark, rough sound that was half-laugh, half-growl. Then, he moved. The rhythm he established was devastating. It wasn’t frantic; it was a heavy, methodical pounding that drove the breath from her lungs with every impact. Celeste surrendered to the mathematics of it—the angle of his hips, the leverage of his hands gripping her thighs, the exact, searing point of friction where their bodies met.

She demanded control, flipping their positions with a sudden, violent twist of her hips. He let her take it, falling back against the pillows as she straddled him. She rode him with the same aggressive efficiency she applied to corporate takeovers, setting a punishing pace, her breasts swaying heavily above him. He reached up, capturing her curves, his thumbs rolling over her hardened peaks, sending electric shocks straight down to her core.

Every time she slammed down onto him, a visual of the orbital array fractured in her mind, replaced by the sheer, blinding white of impending climax. He watched her unravel, his hands shifting to grip her hips, directing her movements, subtly shifting the angle until she was hitting the exact spot that made her vision blur.

"That’s it," he encouraged, his voice dropping an octave. "Take it."

She shattered around him, her cry echoing in the massive, empty suite. Her internal systems short-circuited. As the aftershocks racked her body, clamping down hard on him, he drove up one final, brutal time, groaning her name—or what he thought was her name—as he poured himself into her.

Celeste collapsed onto his chest, her heart hammering a frantic staccato against his ribs. For exactly three minutes, the world did not exist. There were no satellites. There was no board. There was only the heavy, rhythmic breathing of the man beneath her and the smell of sex and sweat.

Then, the internal dashboard flickered back online.

Celeste rolled off him, the cool air of the suite hitting her damp skin. She sat on the edge of the bed, her feet finding the plush carpet. She reached for her Jaeger-LeCoultre on the nightstand. 2:14 AM.

"Hydration," she said aloud, her voice crisp, devoid of the ragged vulnerability from moments ago. She stood, entirely unashamed of her nakedness, and walked to the minibar. She cracked open two bottles of Voss water, returning to the bed to hand him one.

He was propped up on his elbows, the sheet tangled low around his waist. He watched her with an expression she couldn’t quite parse. It wasn’t the usual post-coital satisfaction, nor was it dismissal. It was a cold, architectural assessment.

"You recover quickly," he noted, taking the bottle.

"Efficiency is the only metric that matters," Celeste replied, taking a long drink. She analyzed the encounter. It had been flawless. A zero-liability transaction. He hadn’t asked for her last name, and she hadn’t asked for his. "You were excellent. But as established, I have a five a.m. departure. I’ll need to use the shower first."

    "The launch," he said simply.

Celeste paused, her hand on the frosted glass door of the bathroom. "Yes. The launch." She didn’t elaborate. She didn’t need to. Anyone within a fifty-mile radius of the space center knew that Helia was sending up the final relay node tomorrow.

"I’ll be gone before you’re out of the water," he said, taking a sip from his bottle.

"Thank you," she nodded, stepping into the bathroom. The boundary was honored. The system was closed.
